Axim installs Journalist as New Nkosuohene

A 32-year-old Journalist and Communication Analyst, Mr Evans Osei Baffour, has been installed as the new Nkosuohene of the Lower Axim Traditional Council in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.

Installed under the Stool name, Nana Osei Nkwantabisa, the Nkosuahene, ( Development Chief) took over from Nana Kaku Bruu, a Takoradi-based businessman.

Nana Bruu relinquished his position in order to take up the Abusuapayin (family head) of his hometown, Nkroful in the Ellembele District of the Western Region.

Nana Nkwantabisa was among the three chiefs, who were recently installed in Axim by the Chiefs and Elders of the Lower Axim Traditional Council.

The other two chiefs are Nana Afful, who took over as the Mbrantiehene, (Youth Leader) from the late Kojo Armah, a former Member of Parliament for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Constituency; and Nana Bentil, the Chief Fisherman.

The colourful event was well attended by over 35 sub-chiefs from the Lower Axim Traditional Council and a delegation from the Upper Axim Traditional Council, the Municipal Chief Executive, family members, sympathisers and friends from the media.

In his remarks, Nana Wiafum, the caretaker Chief of the Lower Axim Traditional Council, who is the Gwantuahene, explained that the mode of selection of the Chiefs was based on personal qualities such as humility, hard working and respect for all, but not based on the wealth or affluence of individuals.

He said the selection process involved a vetting of three young men whose names were presented to the Council for consideration, where the best candidate was agreed and nominated for the position.

Nana Wiafum called on the people to support the newly installed chiefs to perform their duties well.

On his part, Nana Osei Nkwantabisa urged all to rally behind him in other to dispense his duties successfully by offering constructive and potent leadership that would culminate into the needed development.

He assured the people of his continuous commitment to bring more developmental projects to help improve Axim and its environs.

Mr James K. Baidoe, the Municipal Chief Executive of Nzema East, congratulated the new chiefs and pledged to support to their reign.

Mr Evans Osei Baffour is the grandson of late Mr Emmanuel K. Osei, also known as Nana Osei Nkwantabisa, the Asanteman Nkosuohene of Sepe Timpomu of Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.

Nana Osei Nkwantabisa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a Master of Arts Degree in Development Communication.
