BECE leakage; heads must roll - Group

After the massive leakage of BECE questions on Wednesday June 17, 2015, that prompted the cancellation of five papers and the postponement of two others by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the Tertiary Education Students’ Confederacy of the New Patriotic Party Alumni (TESCONA) has strongly expressed their discontentment on the issue.

In a press statement released June 18, 2015, they have called on authorities to probe and duly punish culprits instead of putting the candidates through the tough experience of re-writing the leaked papers in subject areas, Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, Religious and Moral Education and Social Studies.

BECE LEAKED PAPERS, HEADS MUST ROLL.

The fundamental but necessary tenets upon which the success of every country is built largely depends of Education. It is in this vein that, the 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana clearly enshrines Education as a RIGHT and not a PRIVILEGE.

We the members of the afore mentioned association therefore sees the importance of this clause in the constitution and attaches all the necessary importance it deserves. We therefore cannot sit down aloof and watch our education systems to be reduced to ground zero.

We have followed with keen interest the recent developments in relations to an alleged leaked papers in the on-going Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which have led to the cancellation of five (5) papers namely; English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Religious and Moral Education and Social Studies.

It is evidently clear that, almost every year, examination papers do leak rendering innocent pupils and students stranded and thereby paying bitterly for things which are no fault of theirs.

We do not see the logic in the actions of the examinations council (WAEC) and the ministry of education as a whole why innocent pupils must be made to suffer the penalty of the actions of others who should know better.

How can the frog sweat for the pepper the lizard chew alone? It is not logic in any day because who the cup fits, let them wear it. It has gradually become a ritual in this country whereby people who are put at sensitive positions and are been paid by the tax payer sits down aloof and something disastrous happens and the penalty is shifted on the innocent citizen, we can even make reference to the posture of the government in the case of the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, NPA BOSS and others who call the shot in government now, but did nothing to prevent the recent flooding in Accra.

These individuals are still at post whiles the ordinary citizens suffers the penalty which in any well civilized country these people would have been made to suffer for their actions. Why are we doing such a great disservice to our citizens?

It will surprise you to know that, pupils in the deprived communities in our country who already lack certain social amenities and other sophisticated teaching and learning materials but would still be made to write the same papers with those in the cities did not even see the alleged leaked papers but are been made to pay the penalty unlawfully.

This ignoramus approach to issues must stop as soon as practicable.

"Things fall apart and the centre can no longer hold" (Chinua Achebe ) We conclude conclusively by stating that, the following people with all humility must step down honorably; education minister, Head of WAEC, Director General, GES the head of Examinations Council and whoever matters in the education circles. This is because, these innocent pupils are neither staffs of WAEC nor the ministry and therefore cannot suffer for that.

Tescona therefore supports any parent or guardian who wants to seek redress at any competent court of justice. We also ask all students to stay resolute and firm and should not be moved. The good Lord will fight for all the innocent students. Long Live Ghana
