Agona Nkwanta (W/R) Feb. 21,-GNA-Some students of the Baidoo-Bonsu Senior Secondary School in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region, embarked on a peaceful demonstration at the schools premises over the frequent interruption of electricity and the lack of accommodation and classroom facilities.

They carried placards some of which read, "No electricity no classes," "we need more spacious accommodation to enhance education." The students claimed that they can no longer study at night due to the frequent power fluctuations and interruptions and the lack of classrooms and boarding facilities.

Mr. Kwesi Biney, Acting District Chief Executive, speaking to the media said the demonstration by the students was baseless and without merit. He said the school was among the pilot schools selected by the government in 2003 and is being provided with modern classroom, boarding, assembly hall and other amenities to serve as a model in the region.

Mr. Biney said due to ongoing works, the electrical supply has been disconnected to some parts of the school to prevent any harm to either students or the workers.

He said currently some old buildings, which housed some of the students, are also being rehabilitated while the ventilation, electrical and water systems are being repaired to avoid any fire outbreaks. Mr. Biney therefore, appealed to the students to exercise restraint and allow the contractors to go about their normal duties without any interruptions.

He urged the management of the school to find alternative and temporary buildings on campus and equip it with lights to facilitate the studies of the students.
