Kumasi, Feb 4, GNA- Fire broke out in a house at Anloga, a suburb of Kumasi and burnt cash of over 15 million cedis and personal belongings.
Madam Ataa Panin alias Efua Panin, a 36-year-old widow and a baker at Anloga, who lost the cash and belongings could not give any cause for the outbreak.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) about the disaster, Madam Efua Panin said at about 0530 hours last Friday, while baking about 400 meters from the house, her 14-year-old daughter rushed to inform her that there was fire in her room.
She said when she got to the house, she saw personnel of the Fire Service at the scene putting out the fire and was told that they were called in by some good Samaritans.
Madam Efua Panin said after the fire was put off she realised that 15 million cedis cash which she was to use to pay for the supply of flour and her own unspecified amount of money were burnt. Other items which got burnt were two boxes full of clothes, two big bags, assorted clothing materials, a standing fan and other valuables belonging to some of her workers.
Madam Efua Panin therefore made a passionate appeal to the public, NGOs and philanthropists to come to her aid to enable her start life afresh.
The Fire Service could also not fathom the cause of the fire since they ruled out electrical fault because the victim used only one hanging bulb in the room while the standing fan was not functioning. 4 Feb 04
