‘Bambulu’s School Days’, a fiction novel based loosely on the school and life experiences of an Accra Academy old boy, has been launched in Accra.
The 155- page book is the memoir of a Ghanaian school child who had a very difficult childhood because his parents were separated after his birth.
He, however, got over that initial childhood trauma caused mostly by his father and step-mother. Excerpts of the story were initially published in The Mirror Newspaper.
Bambulu’s School Days, was authored by Dr Alfred Cudjoe, a professional translator and a French Lecturer at the University of Education Winneba.
Dr Cudjoe is also the author of “Who Killed Sankara? and “Beyond The Ballot Box”.
Mr Nii Abbey Ashong, Assistant Headmaster of the Accra Academy who launched the book, noted that ‘Bambulu’s School Days’ is not only about the exploits of a schoolboy but about life in general.
He recalled that a review of the book by Dr Ansah Kwei, had revealed a wide range of themes including love, culture and tradition, extended family, rural setting, birth, child care and parenting, leisure and recreation, adolescence and maturity.
Mr Reginald Niibi Ayibonte, a former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio who graced the launch said the book demonstrates yet again that Ghana is not bereft of writers.
Mr Vincent Birch Freeman, a former headmaster and old boy Accra Academy, urged the students to cultivate the habit of reading.
“I have realised that the interest of students in reading has waned; it has gone down considerably. Students are scared when they see fat books and what they want to see are flat books that they can read without any difficulty. It was not so in our time,” he said.
