Bantama residents hand over renovated clinic to Asena Manso Akroso DCE

Chiefs and people of Akyem Bantama a farming community in the Asena Manso Akroso District of the Eastern region has handed over a renovated government clinic to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Alex Incoom.

The new facility comprises a consulting room, labour ward, general ward and an OPD section. Interestingly, the renovated cost of Ghc 10,000 was founded by the community members through individual contributions and communal labour.

The project built in the early part of the 1990’s has been abandoned by successive governments for over a decade now. This has compelled residents leaving within the catchment areas to resort to the nearest health facility at Akroso which is over 4km away.

The restoration work entails tiling of the entire floor in the building, putting up block work, painting, fixing of ceiling fans, new doors and lighting systems.

Commissioning the project, the DCE for the area, Mr. Incoom praised the chiefs and people of Bantama for their self-help spirit, which was helping to improve the living condition of the community.

He said, the people’s commitment to improve themselves through self help initiatives was in total spirit of the government’s development agenda, which was aimed at empowering the people to lift themselves from abject poverty.

Mr. Incoom urged the other communities in the District to emulate the chiefs and people of the town and praised the Assembly man and the Unit Committee members for their dedication and hard work in given the edifice a facelift. In an appreciation, the DCE Pledged the Assembly’s support with immediate effect to furnish the facility with the needed medical equipments adding that, the Assembly will also liaised with the Health Directorate to post health officials to begin work as soon as practicable in the facility.

The Birim Central Municipal Health Director, Mr. James Avoka who doubles as the Acting District Health Director for the area, noted that the construction of the facility was a clear demonstration of the people to tackle their health need head on.

He assured the community leaders that staff that will be posted to the area would exhibit high sense of professionalism and good behavior in the discharge of their duties.

The Asene Manso Akroso District is one of 38 newly created Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country by government to enhance local governance at the grassroots. It was curved out of the Birim Central Municipality and was inaugurated on March 15, 2018.
