Agona Swedru, Nov 15, GNA - The Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Owusu Donyina, has extended an "SOS" message to banking institutions and corporate bodies to help complete the abandoned structure meant for offices and accommodation for police officers at Agona Swedru.
He said currently the place being used as the Divisional Command was meant for accommodation for personnel and had been turned into offices, a situation that had created accommodation problems for them. Chief Superintendent Donyina made the appeal when the Agona Swedru Branch of the Barclays Bank Limited painted the walls and offices of the Divisional Police Command.
The Management and Staff of the bank also spent more four hours to sweep, weed and prune the flowers at the Division.
According to an official of the bank, the gesture formed part of the Annual Community Services Programme of the Barclays Bank to assist communities in their operational areas. According to Chief Superintendent Donyina, the construction of the buildings started in 1972 but was abandoned due to financial problems and this had created acute accommodation difficulties for the personnel in the Swedru Municipality.
He expressed appreciation to Barclays Bank for the gesture and urged others to go to their aid. Mr Kwame Osibe, Manager of the Branch, said the bank chose to paint the walls because the police needed assistance from the institutions and individuals to enable them to work effectively. He said the bank spent GHC2,000 on the programme and expressed the hope that it would go long way to boost the morale of the personnel to protect lives and property.
Mr Osibe said the bank had proposed that at its next Annual Community Services period some school buildings in some deprived areas in the Agona West Municipality would be renovated to help promote effective teaching and learning.
