The Bawjiase-Agona Swedru highway will be rehabilitated under the Ghana Enhanced Road Fund Project, President John Mahama has said.
The president made the promise at the sod cutting ceremony for the construction of the Kasoa interchange.
He said at the ceremony on Wednesday February 3 that: “In other parts of the Central region, we are also undertaking various highway, feeder, and urban road improvement works under the cocoa roads project.
The Bawjiase-Agona Swedru highway will also be rehabilitated under the Ghana Highway Enhanced Road Fund Project, that is, the road from Kasoa to Bawjiase to Swedru. It has been awarded on contract and so work will start on it,” he added.
He mentioned that in addition to the Bawjiase-Agona Swedru road, other roads in other parts of the Central region will also receive a facelift.
He noted that 95km of urban roads in Cape Coast, Elmina, Mankessim, Saltpond, Winneba and Agona Swedru are going to be asphalted.
Speaking on the Kasoa interchange, Mr Mahama said it was not only designed to ease traffic on the Kasoa-Cape Coast stretch of road, but to change the lives of the beneficiary communities.
“This is a transformational project and is contributing to our vision of changing lives and transforming Ghana.
“The Kasoa interchange project reflects our desire, as a government, to impact the lives of our people positively with the projects that we execute.
“Normally when a road project is conceptualised, it takes a view of only the travelling public, that is, people passing through the community, and, therefore, arrangements are made to make it easy for them to cross the community without taking into recognition the needs of the community itself.
“This Kasoa interchange is different. It doesn’t only serve the people coming from Accra and passing to Cape Coast; it serves the needs of the people of Kasoa, the inhabitants of this city.”
