Dr Victor Doke, a lecturer at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has advised that Alhaji Seidu Abagre should be taken out of Bawku in order to restore calm.

According to Dr Doke, the current clash in Bawku was an incident that was bound to happen due to the presence of the rival chief, Alhaji Seidu Abagre.

“If you have a chief in the area already and a rival chief shows up, there will be a confrontation. So, it’s either we saw the signs on the wall and didn’t act, or there are some shadow stakeholders who were complacent,” Dr. Doke stated during an interview on Newsfile monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

He emphasised that the government should have issued a proper arrest warrant but played it safe in order not to be affected during the upcoming elections.

“For the right thing to be done, get Alhaji Seidu Abagre out of Bawku in the meantime to restore calm and then take the next step to prevent the deaths from increasing,” he advised.

Over ten (10) individuals tragically lost their lives in the ongoing Bawku conflict, which has been marked by escalating violence and tension in the region.

Some of the victims were ambushed on the road while travelling in a truck from Bawku after unidentified assailants opened fire on the vehicle, resulting in their deaths.

Reports indicate that one of the deceased was a Mamprusi, while the other was a Togolese national.

The Togolese man had been in Bawku to care for his ailing father, who sadly passed away during their stay. They were en route to Togo with the deceased body when the ambush occurred.

Despite the deployment of security forces to restore peace, incidents of violence persist amid the escalating tensions.

With this latest incident, the death toll in the Bawku conflict has now reached 19.
