Zebilla (U/E), Aug. 23, GNA- The Bawku West Assembly was able to collect only 103 million cedis out of a target of 265 million cedis at the end of June this year.

The short fall is attributed to the lean season and non-performance of revenue officers of the Assembly.

Mr Moses Abaare Appiah, the District Chief Executive said this at the second ordinary sitting of the Assembly on Thursday at Zebilla in the Upper East Region.

Mr Abaare expressed the hope that the assembly's revenue will improve during the peak revenue season from October to December. He said even though the assembly tried to live within its budgetary limits with respect to recurrent expenditures in view of some underlying unfavourably environmental factors such as price increases that compelled to exceed its expenditure targets.

Mr Abaare said the assembly continues to depend heavily on the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) for financing its capital projects because of its weak local revenue base.

The Presiding Member Mr. Roy Ayariga, urged members of the assembly and all persons involved in revenue mobilisation to help the assembly to generate revenue.

He said students who are receiving funding from the assembly should complement the assembly revenue collectors when they are on holidays to enable the assembly to meet its commitments.
