Be effective leaders, IGP urges police officers

The Junior Command Course 4/2016 of the Ghana Police Command and Staff College (GPCSC) has ended with a call on the officers to strive hard to be good and effective leaders.

Mr John Kudalor, Inspector General of Police, said this in a speech delivered on his behalf by Director General Administration, Deputy Commissioner of Police DCOP Mr. Ransford Ninson.

A total of 49 Deputy Superintendents of Police officers attended the course and they were the forth batch of Senior Police officers who successfully have gone through a five-week intensive training to enhance their command, staff, operational and managerial capabilities.

The training programmes at the College are designed to provide quality; professional, practical and skills development training for Senior Police Officer to help them provide quality law enforcement service to the people of the country. You must resolve to appreciate that you remain accountable to the citizens and hence, must relate to them as true public servants with courtesy and within the dictates of the law, the IGP said.

Mr Kudalor said the task of blending their acclaimed quality human assets with quality leadership is the main challenge ahead of them and this they can surmount. He said in so doing they must resolve both individually and collectively, to hold their duties sacred, execute functions with pride and exhibit the highest level of professional excellence in all their official engagements.

The IGP said as the government is doing its best to ensure that the Service is better equipped to perform its duties effectively, the good people of the country expect them to fulfil their part of the contract by ensuring the safety and security of all.

He reminded the officers again that aside their routine operations, some major national assignment including the provision of security during the Easter festivities and the onset of the political campaign season for the November elections is at hand. “I am confident that with the operational competence we have, we can deliver to ensure the success of the exercises in spite of the possible challenges we may be confronted with,” Mr. Kudalor added.

DSP Elizabeth Viney the course prefect on behalf of her colleges expressed her gratitude to the IGP and the Police Management and Advisory Board for the opportunity offered them. In a related development , Ernest Best Anane reports from Kumasi that uniformed Police personnel have been charged to remain non-partisan in discharging their duties as service personnel especially when elections are close to ensure peace and order before, during and after the elections.

DCOP Kofi Boakye, Ashanti regional Police Commander, sounded the caution at an end of year get together WASSA, organized by the regional police command.

According to him, the police should see themselves as peace officers and always stand for the right thing to be done irrespective of one status in society, religious background or political dispensation.

He said it is incumbent for every police officer to protect lives and property to make sure there is peace in the country for every citizen to go about his or her normal duties or work without fear of their lives.

He commended the regional command for their efforts in making the region security stable, especially in bringing the recent chaos to the barest minimum. Mr. Alexander Ackon, the Ashanti Regional Minister, also commended the police administration for their efforts to make the region remain one of the most peaceful in the country.

According to him, WASSA to the police is coming together and sharing ideas with prevailing challenges in the society and urged personnel to respect their unit commanders.

He also entreated the police to collaborate with other security agencies to address the Fulani herdsmen menace which resulted in the loss of innocent lives at Agogo and other communities in the region, as government is more determined to help the police put pragmatic and proactive measures to end to the challenge.

He disclosed that, government would do whatever it could to motivate the police to deliver on their mandate of maintaining peace.

The regional Minister entreated the public especially the media to give accurate information to the police and other security agencies and services to enable them curtail any peace threatening activities in the region.
