Kumasi, Oct 21, GNA - Alhaji Abdul Hamid Chodi, Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation has called on Muslim leaders to be selfless and committed to the development of Islam. He said it was about time Muslim leaders eschewed selfishness and other negative tendencies that militate against the religion and evolved pragmatic strategies that will help address the many problems facing the Muslims.

Alhaji Chodi was speaking at a symposium and fund-raising rally of the Ghana Muslim Students Association (GMSA). Speaking on the topic: "GMSA, A Must For The Muslim Community", he said the main problem confronting Muslims is leadership and said people should not be interested in leadership if they do not possess leadership qualities.

Alhaji Chodi spoke against discrimination against the religion and asked the students to work hard to reverse some of the issues that give rise to the discrimination against the religion.

Sheik Ahmed Nkrumah, an Islamic Theologian, asked for closer collaboration between the students and their Christian counterparts to build the spirit of mutual brotherliness.

He cautioned Muslims to be modest in their spending but should rather invest more money in programmes and activities that promote the development of the religion, adding, ''Islam abhors both extravagance and miserliness.''

Mr Hussein Ali, President of the Association asked members to respect the aged and work towards giving the religion a good image.
