Drivers at Begoro in the Fanteakwa District have rescinded their decision to demonstrate against what they consider to be sub-standard work on the new multi million-cedi lorry park at the town.

According to the drivers work on the lorry park under the Urban Five Project of the World Bank by Brazz Construction Company, did not conform to "standards of modern lorry parks in the country".

Their decision followed the intervention of some prominent personalities, including the Eastern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr J. K. Cudjoe and officials of the Begoro branch of the Union.

According to the GPRTU Branch Secretary, Mr Kwame Sarpong, the drivers complained that the entrance into the lorry park was too narrow, adding that, two vehicles, one entering and the other leaving, could not use it at the same time.

He said the drivers also complained against the construction of a passengers' lounge in the middle of the park, leaving inadequate parking space for vehicles.

Meanwhile, the company has demolished the passengers' lounge, probably for relocation.
