Bekwai Omanhene inspires development

Nana Kaakari Appau II, Omanhene of Bekwai, has marked 15 years of his installation with a call to get actively involved in efforts at bringing development to the traditional area.

He said everybody should find space and to have an important role to play to improve the quality of life of the people.

He said they should take responsibility and work together to harness the vast human and natural resources to enhance their living conditions.

Nana Kaakari Appau said it is time they take their destiny in their own hands and pool resources to provide the needed infrastructure in the areas of information communication technology), health and skills training.

He was addressing a durbar held to climax his anniversary celebration at Bekwai, which attracted high profile personalities including traditional and religious rulers from across the country.

“Awakening the spirit of creativity and innovation to foster communal development,” was the theme for the week-long event.

Nana Kaakari Appau’s reign over the past one-and-a-half decades has been a watershed, associated with peace and socio-economic progress.

He is credited with bringing amicable conclusion various chieftaincy and land disputes, which were holding back development in some communities in the traditional area, encompassing the Bekwai Municipality and the Amansie Central District.

There is now a functional customary lands secretariat overseeing efficient land management in the paramountcy.

His other achievements include the establishment of an education fund, construction of a multi-purpose community centre, a palace for the queen, facelift of the Ayeboafo Stool Palace and rehabilitation of the Gyamfi Park, which now serves as a premier league centre.

The Omanhene reminded the people to remain united and avoid division, which, he said is counter productive to progress.

Ms Mary Gyantuah, Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive, gave the assurance that the government would collaborate with traditional authorities to make things better for the people.
