...for framing up someone in rape case
Sunyani (B/A Region) -- A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of a resident doctor of the Akropong Ashanti Government Hospital, Dr. Nyamekye, for falsification of a police medical form, framing one Joseph Amankwa a Sunyani based photographer as a rapist.

Two others are also to be arrested on the orders of a Sunyani district magistrate court on the offences of fabrication of evidence, contrary to section 213 of Act 29/60 and deceit of public officer, contrary to section 251 of Act 29/60.

The two others are Alhassan Ali and Mohammed Obuabisah.

The first three accused persons involved in the case are Emelia Danquah, Abdulai Ibrahim, aka "container" and Mary Asmah, also known as Auntie Ama Adomah. They were remanded in prison custody when they appeared before the court on the same charges.

They all pleaded not guilty to the offence, but the court presided over by His Lordship, Charles Adjei Wilson found them guilty and deferred their sentence to the next adjournment date, January 16, 03 for Judgment.

Presenting the facts of the case, A.S.P. Alex Yartey Tawiah said on January 3, at 3pm Emelia Danquah, accompanied by Mary Asmah called at the WAJU offices at Sunyani with extracts of occurrence of police medical form from the Akropong police fully endorsed by Dr. Nyamekye of the Akropong Government Hospital in Ashanti and a photograph of her admission at the hospital.

According to the facts, Emelia complained to the police that on December 30, last year, she was sent by Mary Asmah to go and give an amount of ?3million to one Atta at Sunyani.

ASP Yartey Tawiah told the court that Emelia decided to pass the night at a guesthouse at Fiapre and on the following day, December 31, she went to Amankwa Joseph to collect her pictures but in the process she was raped by Amankwa, the photographer.

She further told the police that the photographer, having succeeded in raping her collected the ?3million in addition.

ASP Yartey said, based on the complaint of Emelia, the WAJU unit at Sunyani launched investigations into the case and arrested Amankwa for interrogation.

Amankwa, according to the prosecution, denied the offence and stated among other things that he was framed up by his landlord, one Alhassan Ali, who is on the run, as he had already told him that he would see what would happen to him.

Later Emelia introduced Abudula Ibrahim as her sister and she was asked to go and bring their mother for confirmation.

On January 4, at about 10 am Emelia, Ibrahim and Mary Asmah came to introduce her (Asmah) as the mother.

ASP Yartey Tawiah told the court that during an opening confrontation, Asmah admitted that the charge of rape labelled against Amankwa was a fabricated one.

The third accused person further hinted the police that it was Alhassan, the landlord of the victim who sent Emelia to frame the poor photographer up that she was raped by him.

All were arrested and charged with the offence before the court.
