Bible Society of Ghana organises Bible walk

Kokrobite (G/A), Sept. 14, GNA - The Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) on Tuesday organised a five-kilometre walk in five communities in Ga district to commemorate 200 years celebration of Bible work worldwide. About 200 Christians from local churches who were under the Christian Council of Ghana took part in a brass band procession dubbed "Bible Walk", from Bortianor through Ashieye to Kokrobite. It was organised in collaboration with the Local Council of Churches in the area under the theme, "God's Word: Hope And Life For Us All". The communities, which took part in the "Bible Walk" were Aplaku, Bortianor, Ashieye, Kokrobite and Langba.

The Reverend Kofi Owusu, General Secretary of BSG, said the aim of involving the five communities was to bring the churches together to fellowship and also to create the awareness for unbelievers to repent and get committed to God's work. He said they chose Kokrobite for the occasion because the people were mainly fishermen and women who have been in contact with God's grace on the sea and wanted them to appreciate God's guidance and love in their lives. Rev Owusu said they included the Bible walk as part of the celebration because the genesis of the Bible Societies worldwide was a result of a long walk people undertook in the search for a Bible to buy. To date, he said, the Bible Society translated the Bible into 2,300 different languages. "It is our hope to translate the Bible into so many other languages at affordable prices to the people so that God's word will reach everybody. "The Bible is supposed to be read, meditated upon and pray over what you've read. But if people are using it for other purposes that's where they start to have problems."

Nii Woleiatse Asaase, Chief Fisherman, said formerly Kokrobite was not a Christian community "but when the time came and God decided to put his feet on our soil, lots of great things have happened to us." He therefore, urged the people to leave in peace and unity with each other to allow God's grace to work among them. Activities marking the year-long celebration, which begun in March this year, include handwritten Bible from Genesis to Revelation, handwritten favourite scripture verses, Bi-centenary commemorative service, Bible reading marathon, prayer day in partnership with Transformation Africa, BI-centenary Presidential dinner, presentation to foster homes and orphanages and schools, and thanksgiving service.
