The Bible Society of Ghana has completed plans to construct a Bible Retreat Centre in Kitase, near Aburi in the Eastern Region, to provide a peaceful environment for Christians to meditate and communicate with God.

According to Reverend Erasmus Odonkor, General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG), this would be the flagship project of the Society for its Golden Jubilee.

Rev. Odonkor who spoke on the topic “50 years of Bible Work and Beyond”, at the launch of the Golden Jubilee anniversary in Accra, said a five-member Project Steering Committee has been established for the successful execution of the project.

He said to ensure a perfect work an additional five-member technical team had also been put in place with direct responsibility for the technical oversight of the project and to protect the interest of the BSG.

He said the Business Plan for the project was currently in its final stages, while detailed architectural and structural drawings had been completed by the Contractor.

Rev. Odonkor explained that the project would be executed in three phases, with the first consisting of the construction of the Administrative lock, Matron’s accommodation, one hostel, church and Pastor’s chalets.

The contractor, he said, is currently on site to clear the land for the project to begin. However, the Society has very limited funds to carry on with the project, unless it is assisted by philanthropists and the benevolence of well-wishers.

He said as a not-for-profit Christian Organisation, the BSG had relied on the generosity of Christians both locally and internationally over the years to run its programmes and investing some of these donations into such a project was not only to broaden its services, but also to make some income to support its operations.

He, therefore, appealed to all churches, Christian groups and other well-wishers to make generous contributions to the BSG towards the successful start-up of the project, and more importantly to prevent encroachment on the land.

Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante, President of the Bible Society of Ghana, expressed his appreciation to all who dupported the Society in diverse ways over the past 50 years.

He called for an urgent revolution against sin by setting aside a day for the celebration of the Bible, where Christians across the country would hold programmes focusing on the Bible to create awareness of the word of God.
