Akyem Oda, Aug. 03, GNA - The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) on Wednesday presented relief items to flood victims in the Birim Central Municipality.

The items included bags of rice and beans, mats, foam mattresses, second hand clothing, plastic cups and plates.

Mr Ransford Owusu-Boakye, Regional Coordinator of NADMO, presenting the items, at a ceremony at Akyem Oda, said the items were only meant for persons who had been affected by the floods and not non-victims.

Ms Ophelia Koomson, Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive (who received the items on behalf of the victims, appealed to Ghanaians to assist the victims to make lives a bit comfortable for them.

She said Ghanaians had a role to play in preventing disasters and appealed to chiefs and residents to often organize communal labour to clear weeds and garbage from the streams and gutters especially before rainy season to allow free flow of water.

The State Insurance Company, Life Department, also presented relief items and GHC 4,000 to flood victims at separate ceremony at Akyem Oda.

The items were cartons of key soap, matches, bags of rice, maize and sugar, cooking oil, bowls, cups and plates.
