Birim South District Assembly dissolved

Akyem Oda (E/R), Sept. 1, GNA - The Birim South District Assembly on Friday commended Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo and Mr Felix Owusu-Adjapong, Members of Parliament (MPs) for Akyem Oda and Akyem Swedru respectively for their assistance, which enabled the Assembly to access some donor funds for development.

Mr Frank Kwame Busumtwi, the District Chief Executive (DCE), made the commendation during the dissolution of the fourth assembly at Akyem Oda to pave the way for the election of new assembly members to constitute the fifth assembly.

He appealed to the MPs to fight for more projects towards the speedy development of the District.

Mr Busumtwi said during the four-year period, the Assembly was able to initiate 56 projects out of which 39 had been completed, while the rest were at various stages of completion. He said the execution of the projects had been made possible due to the understanding, cooperation and hard work of the assembly members and commended them for a good job done.

Mr Robert Oscar Prah, Presiding Member, commended the out-going assembly members for their dedication to duty and expressed optimism that the in-coming ones would continue to uphold the good image of the Assembly.

The 77 assembly members were given one million cedis each out of their proposed two million cedis ex-gratia with the remaining amount to be paid before the end of the year. Earlier, Mr William Yamoah, the newly elected President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), interacted with the assembly members and urged them to uphold the non-partisan nature of district assemblies.

He appealed to the Assembly to institute a fund, which could be use to grant loans to students in tertiary institutions at the beginning of each academic year to be paid back when they received their Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) loans.
