Bishop Calls For Government's Intervention On B/A Cheiftaincy Row

The bishop of the sunyani diocese of the methodist church has called on the government of ghana to find ways of solving the numerous chieftaincy dispute in the brong ahafo region.

Rt rev james baffour Awuah said the many chieftaincy dispute and land dispute in the region was hampering the socio-economic development .this was contained in his annual report at the 28th annual synod of the churchat Dormaa ahenkro.

Bishop baffour Awuah congratulated the government for introducing the new educational reform which makes it conpulsory for children from two years to enjoy free education to junior secondary school level.He however appealled for the extention of facilityies like sylabuses and text books to private schools to enhance uniformityin both public and private basic schools.

He also expressed the church's wish for the gorvernment to absorb the salaries of private kindergartens to ease the burden on proprieters.

Rt. Rev. baffour Awuahdisclosed that , for t5he past two years the enrollment in the church's schools have increased by 23% and charged church members to generate more income for the expansion of the schools infrastructural facilities.

Touching on the contribution of the church since it's inception 172 years ago,bishop baffour Awuah stated that through it's moral training great men have been produced to serve of the country and the world as a whole.

On the redenomination of the cedi campaign, bishop Baffour Awuah recommended that ,religious organisations should be entrusted with the education campaign for more people to understand the new cedi concept. He called for seminars to be organised for religious leaders to acqaint themselves with the reqiusite knowledge to enable them teach their members.

He dispassionately showed the church's delight in the passage of the domestic vilence bill into law and called for the involvement of all stakeholders in the corerect interpretation of the law .This he said ,this will help erase the misconceptions some people have about the law.

The lay president of the Church Mr. Abedu Brew revealed that ,a scholarship scheme had set up by the church to cater for briliant but needy children and called on members to contribute for the sustenance of the scheme.fourteen public schools of the church were giving awards for excelling in last year's basic Education certification examination (BECE)
