At Hohoe in the Volta region jubilant soccer fans on Thursday set the principal streets of Hohoe agog in appreciation of the landmark and virtuoso soccer performance displayed by the Black Stars to beat the United States 2-1 to qualify from Group E alongside Italy in the World Cup tournament underway in Germany. The fans clad in the national colours danced to various forms of music to express their joy and support for the Black Stars for their stupendous performance, which enabled them to earn them six points, one less than Italy, who topped the group with seven points.

Staging various forms of acrobatic displays by cyclists, motorcyclists and honking drivers attracted cheers, clapping and screaming from onlookers. They said but for some little mistakes committed by the Black Stars, the team was superior to their US opponents, who had described the game with the Stars as the easiest.

The fans said the current telepathy and chemistry of the team should be maintained to enable them to square up with the Samba Boys from Brazil. A cross-section of the fans, however, expressed their indignation against Markus Merk, the German referee in the centre of affairs, for showing Michael Essien a yellow card, which had ruled him out of the match against Brazil. They urged the technical handlers to prepare the team well and sharpen all rough edges for the crunchy duel with the Brazilians.

The enthusiastic fans asked Coach Ratomir Djokovic, affectionately called Doya, to perform magic again against Brazil, which they believed was within his means. Mr Patrick Dzitri, a fan thanked God for the feat of the Stars and expressed the hope that "this victory would open the floodgates for miracles to happened".
