Black Stars Jubilation Koforidua

At Koforidua, torrential rains that tore through the Township during the second-half of the Black Stars epic match with their United States counterparts in Germany failed to dim the celebrations in the New Juaben Municipality after the match ended in favour of the Black Stars. The mood in the Municipality could be described in the words of one of the greatest English Poets, William Wordsworth: "Spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings."

Indeed there was spontaneous overflow of feelings as the residents, united by the common appreciation of the feat of the Stars, anchored in celebrations that began as motley groups of reveries but soon blossomed into street carnivals. Residents, both old and young, savoured in the victory taking to the streets with miniature bugles joined by commuters and drivers, who were honking to drown the noise of the tearing rain. The feelings began with Black Stars first goal that sent fans to the hitherto deserted streets in jubilation.

The rain was heavy but heavier was the feeling of the residents, who had been eagerly awaiting the epic match since the morning. Beyond the Municipality, fans at Suhum in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coalter District were also in joyous mood drawing inspirations from a rainbow that appeared over the Suhum Township, which was interpreted as a good omen for the Stars in their next match against Brazil. Mr John Dei, a staff of the Suhum branch of the South Akim Rural Bank, told the GNA in an interview that the appearance of the rainbow was regarded as a precursor of the arrival of the World Cup in Ghana.
