Blind persons attend workshop

Ho, April 1, GNA - Sixty partially sighted and blind persons in the Volta Region have undergone one-day small-scale business development training in Ho.

The training, which had sponsorship from the Netherlands Embassy, is to strengthen the capacity of participants and help them manage their businesses effectively.

It was also to equip participants to be self-reliant and acquire skills to increase productivity and realize incomes equalling or exceeding the national minimum wage within one year.

Briefing participants Madam Devi Krishnan, a resource person from Volunteer Service Overseas (VSO), said it was important to economically empower people with disabilities. She said such trainings help participants to improve on their

socio-economic situation and urged them to take advantage of the training. Mr Eric Ofori, Volta Regional Coordinator of the Ghana Association of the Blind (GAB), expressed gratitude to sponsors of the training and appealed to other benevolent organizations to support the association. The participants were taught crafts including pillow production and basketry and given basic materials to get established.
