Dunkwa-On-Offin, Dec. 14, GNA - The Boa Amponsem Secondary School in the Central Region scored 98.8 percent in this year's Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) following the resolve by the new administration to redeem the sinking image of the school.
The school had in recent years been recording poor results year after year.
Out of the 328 candidates presented for the examination this year, 71 passed in all the eight subjects while 64 passed in seven subjects with only five students failing in all the subjects.
Mr. Isaac K. Appiah, headmaster of the school announced these when the Obuasi chapter of the school's Old Students Association presented a cheque for eight million cedis to the school to assist them to purchase more student beds.
"My first priority since I took over a year ago was to improve the academic situation in the school," he said adding that, "despite this year's improvement, I am not enthusiastic about it since we can still make better results."
Mr Appiah said the school spent 45 million cedis to lay water pipes and also mechanised a borehole to solve the 40-year old water problem in the school.
He announced that eight staff bungalows, four boys quarters and two boys dormitories had been re-painted to give the school a new look. The headmaster said with the support of the District Assembly two blocks of classrooms were under construction to meet the increasing enrolment in the school.
He commended the Obuasi Chapter of the Old Students Association for the donation and assured them that the money would be used for the intended purpose.
The President of the Obuasi Chapter, Mr Emmanuel Sagoe congratulated the headmaster and staff for their determination to work to improve upon the achievements of the school.
Mr Sagoe said the cost of education was so high that government alone could not cope with it, hence the need for Old Students to assist to improve their alma mater.
He gave the assurance that the Obuasi Chapter would offer them the maximum support to enable them continue to achieve academic and other successes.
At a meeting with the student's body, Mr Emmanuel K. Buadu, the co-ordinating organizer of the Obuasi Chapter advised them to take their studies seriously.
He declared'' before you leave the four walls of this institution, please strive hard to make BOASS a stepping stone for the achievement of your future academic excellence''.
The old students later dined with the students where Mr Edward Sarfo, the 994, Dining Hall Prefect took up his position again and conducted the session warning the students not to eat outside the dining hall.
