Founder of the House of Divine Glory Church, Prophet Jimmy Alla-Mensah, has expressed deep sorrow over Tuesday’s fatal underground explosion at the Bogoso-Prestea Mine, describing the tragedy as a painful reminder of the need for vigilance and early intervention when warnings are issued.

At least six illegal miners are feared dead after noxious fumes—believed to have been triggered by an unauthorised underground blast—filled sections of the abandoned shafts at Levels 8 and 9 of the mine. Some unconfirmed reports suggest the death toll could be higher, with initial figures ranging between 11 and 30.

Reacting to the incident in a Facebook post on Wednesday, Prophet Alla-Mensah said the disaster “confirms the urgency of prophetic warnings,” referencing a caution he shared on November 8.

According to him, ten days prior to the explosion, he had released a prophecy describing a “fiery dart” heading toward Bogoso, transforming into a gas tanker that exploded into a ball of fire—symbolising, he said, the threat of a fire-related disaster in the area.

“No one takes glory in tragedy,” he wrote. “The purpose of prophecy is intervention, not validation. We continue to stand in the gap for the Western Region and for every family affected by this painful incident.”

The U.S.-based Ghanaian prophet called for intensified prayer, vigilance, and safety measures in mining communities to prevent further loss of life.

“May the God of mercy preserve the survivors, comfort the grieving, and bring divine covering over all mining communities across Ghana. Let the bloodshed stop,” he added.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the exact number of casualties, citing the clandestine nature of the miners’ entry into the abandoned pit. Mine sources, however, point to asphyxiation—likely from carbon gases—as the cause of death, following what they believe was an unsanctioned blast initiated by the illegal miners themselves.

The incident has once again spotlighted the continuing dangers of illegal mining and trespass into high-risk abandoned shafts despite ongoing security operations in the Western Region.
