Bolgatanga Assembly Dissolved

Bolgatanga, Sept.5, GNA - The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly disbursed about four billion cedis on developmental projects between 2005 and the first half of 2006.

The projects included school buildings, completion of an assembly office complex in Bolgatanga, construction of stores, roads and teachers' quarters, all within the Municipality and surrounding communities.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Isaac Nsoh Amoah, announced this at the dissolution of the assembly in Bolgatanga on Monday. He said the assembly had registered 1,342 youth as part of the National Youth Employment programme.

Mr. Amoah said the assembly had also acquired 600 acres of land for farming at Zaare, Kalmiga, Gbeogbo and Sheiga, all suburbs of the Bolgatanga Municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive said 41,106 residents had registered for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and had begun accessing affordable healthcare. He urged others to register for the scheme. He said with the introduction of Land Conservation and Smallholders Rehabilitation Project Phase II (LACOSREP II), some dams had been constructed in some of the communities and mentioned Sumburungu, Gambibgo, Dulugu, Dorongo and Zuarungu as some of the beneficiary communities.

The MCE appealed to people contesting the forthcoming district assembly elections to conduct their campaigns with decorum devoid of insults and malicious propaganda.

The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Madam Agnes Atayila, commended the assembly members for their excellent performance and urged them to continue to contribute to the development of their electoral areas. Each of the 40 Assembly members received an ex-gratia award of two million cedis.
