Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly to reclaim school lands from encroachers

Bolgatanga, Sept. 23, GNA - Mr Epsona Ayamga, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has pledged the commitment of the assembly to reclaim all public school lands from encroachers. The MCE who made this known to the Ghana News Agency, in Bolgatanga when he toured some schools with members of the Upper East Regional Co-ordinating Council and the educational authorities in the area to mark 'My First Day' in school, expressed dissatisfaction about the level of encroachment on school lands.

Mr Ayamga said plans are far advanced for stakeholders to meet with landowners, traditional leaders, opinion leaders and assembly members, as part of measures to give legal coverage to all school lands. He entreated parents in the region who exploit the labour of their children by engaging them in basket weaving at night, to stop the act since it hamper their academic work. Mrs Agnes Atagabi, Upper East Regional Director of Education appealed to teachers to work harder to improve upon the educational standard in the country.

Mrs Lucy Awuni, Deputy Regional Minister said government has displayed high premium on education through the building of more educational infrastructure as well as the supply of free school uniforms and exercise books to some deprived schools. Some of the schools visited by the team included Soe Primary School where 46 pupils have been enrolled, 44 pupils at Anglican Primary and 44 at Gambibgo Primary. At Soe Primary, the Headmistress, Madam Regina Azantillow appealed to the Municipal Assembly to help provide the school with a six- classroom block to enable the academic facility to do away with the shift system.
