Bolgatanga, August 2, GNA - Bolgatanga Municipality bagged 243 points in both the boys and girls divisions to emerge tops at the annual Inter-Districts Basic Schools sports competition held at Bolgatanga. The Municipality bagged 118 points in the boys division and 125 points in the girls division respectively. Bongo District came second with 152 points with Builsa District placing third with 155 points.
In a closing address, Mr. Ken Dabuo, Upper East Regional Director of Education said that sports enhances discipline in the youth and occupies them in productive activities while it also builds them physically and mentally for a better up-bringing. He said that sports, as a profession should be embraced especially by the young and energetic men and women who are both morally and physically above reproach to chalk success for themselves and the country.
He advised the participating athletes to eschew drug abuse, pre-marital sex and protect themselves from the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Mr. Dabuo called on sports enthusiasts and the District Assemblies to assist in the development of sporting activities in the Region. He announced that Bolgatanga will host the Inter-Regional Basic Schools festival on 28th August this year and urged all the sportsmen and sportswomen selected to train hard and win laurels for the Region.
