Gowrie (U/E), June 8, GNA - Mr Albert Abongo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bongo, has committed five million cedis as a revolving fund to assist People With Disabilities (PWDs) in his constituency, to improve upon their entrepreneurial skills.

The seed money for the fund was from his share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund (DACF).

Mr Abongo made this known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Gowrie, in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region at the weekend. Beneficiaries of the fund are members of the Ghana Association of the Blind, Ghana Association of the Physically Challenged and the Ghana Association of the Deaf would pay low interest rates.

He expressed dissatisfaction about the neglect of the PWDs, by successive governments, adding: "It is imperative to give support to those who have acquired some skills to engage in viable ventures to take care of their needs as well as the needs of their families. "Gone are the days when family members devoted time to disabled relatives. Conditions have become so hard that PWDs are left to fend for themselves even under trying conditions."

The MP, urged philanthropic organizations and individuals to support PWDs in the District.

" Indeed, no support is too small. Some need wheel chairs, white canes, clutches and money to trade."

Mr Abongo said, he would solicit for support from friends and donors to boost the fund.

He appealed to beneficiaries to repay the loans on time to enable others to access the facility.
