Obuasi, Sept 13, GNA - The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Independence Junior Secondary School at Brahabebome, a suburb of Obuasi, has started work on the construction of additional three-classroom block, a store and office to solve the problem of congestion in the school.
Mr Samuel Kofi Okyere, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, on Saturday broke the ground for work to start on the project estimated at 180 million cedis.
The Adansi Rural Bank with its headquarters at Fomena in the Adansi North District had already supported the project with five packets of roofing sheets valued at 6.2 million cedis.
Mr Okyere expressed satisfaction about the commitment of the Brahabebome community to improve the infrastructure base of the school. He was particularly happy about the co-operation existing between the parents and teachers and said such understanding would impact positively on the academic performance of the school.
He announced that under the Department for International Development (DFID) intervention, the education directorate was assisting in the renovation of some schools in the area.
Mr Okyere, who pledged its support towards the development of the school, promised to give 10 bags of cement and two packets of roofing sheets to support the school project.
He further assured them of furniture and the posting of additional teachers.
Mr Mark Asamoah, the PTA chairman, announced that the project, when completed would be named after the Municipal Director in honour of his immense support to the school.
The chairman of the School Management Committee (SMC), Mr E.K.N. Donkor, had earlier appealed to the Director for iron rods, roofing sheets, furniture and additional teachers.
