Bredi Number One launches endowment fund

Bredi No 1 (B/A), Aug 4, GNA - Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, Deputy Minster of Education, Science and Sports, has appealed to parents to invest in the education of their children to enable them to become responsible citizens.

He was addressing chiefs and people of Bredi Number One in Nkoranza District at the launch of an education endowment fund to support brilliant but needy students in the area.

The fund, "Nana Kwadwo Adjei Education Foundation Scheme", is in memory of the founder of Bredi, the late Nana Okomfo Kwadwo Adjei, who was the priest of Atia Mframa shrine in the area. The fetish priest set up a basic school in the area that was later absorbed into the public system.

Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi, who is the MP for Nkoranza South, paid tribute to the late fetish priest for his hard and dedicated services and called on the people to support the fund.

He urged teachers to take advantage of the teacher's diploma programme to upgrade themselves. He pledged to provide 100 bags of cement to support the construction of a police post by the people. Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education, said 30 basic schools were beneficiaries of the national school-feeding programme.

He said the education directorate had bought 6,000 dual desks for distribution to primary schools and 4,000 mono desks would be provided for junior secondary schools with support from the district assembly. Mr. Nick Danso, a citizen of the town, presented 120 million cedis in support of the fund and appealed to the people to support the government for the accelerated development of the area. Okatakyie Agyemang-Kudom IV, Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, appealed to the government to rehabilitate the Nkoranza/Jema/Kintampo road.
