British Couple Set Up Scholarship For Efutu Breku School Kids

A number of first cycle school pupils in the Efutu Breku area of the Central Region of Ghana are to benefit from a scholarship scheme that will enable them to be educated up to the university level.

For a start, 10 pupils have been chosen as a pilot project during the next academic year after which the project will run on full scale to cover nearly 100 pupils. The project among other things will seek to the provision of basic school equipment such as sports kits and learning materials.

The scheme which will be funded by a British couple, Mr and Mrs Richard Church, will be administered by a board of governors chaired by an eminent citizen of the area, Mr. A.C. Abbeiquai.

Mr and Mrs Richard Church who have made an initial donation of 200 pounds towards the school fees of the first ten beneficiaries told this reporter in an interview in London that the plan to help educate the children in the Efutu Breku area came to mind as a result of contact with Mr. Kwao Abbeiquai who hails from the area and briefed them about some predicaments of the children in the area.

Mr. church said he was touched by the story head about the children and some difficulties they face in their educational endeavours. He added that no one was born into this country to face such hardships and expressed the optimism that with a little push these kids can be well educated and have their dreams fulfil in life.

He said all children everywhere on the globe should be educated to an appreciable level so as to be useful not only to them selves, but to the society at large. Such success story to be told in future about the children of in the Efutu Breku area, Mr Church intimated, he want to be part, together with his wife.

Already sports equipment have been sent through Mr Abbeiquai to Ghana as part of the project which is also aim at helping to raise the standard of sport at the basic level in the area.

According to Mr. Abbeiquai most schools in the area are in deplorable state and therefore view the couple’s intention to assist as a welcome one. He said a good number of school-going kids are out of school due to financial problems faced by parents in the area.
