Bolgatanga, July 8, GNA- Link Community Development (LCD), a British Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has presented cheques valued at 3.5 million cedis each to 37 Basic Schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality, including the Gbeogo School for the Deaf.
Link Community Development has been operating in the Bolgatanga Municipality for the past five years and has been offering financial support to deprived schools.
Its support covers capacity building for Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and School Management Committees (SMCs), as well as the provision of teaching and learning materials to the schools.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Rockson Bukari, paid tribute to LCD for complementing the efforts of the Assembly and the Ghana Education Service in providing the basic needs of the deprived schools.
He noted that the Assemblies alone could not address the problems facing the education sector. He therefore appealed to other benevolent organizations to emulate the kind gesture of LCD by contributing their quota towards improving teaching and learning in the schools. Mr Bukari appealed to the PTAs and SMCs of the beneficiary schools to endeavour to use the grants provided for their intended purpose. The Country Director of LCD, Dr Kenneth Quaigrain assured management of the schools that his organization would continue to provide financial assistance to deprived schools in the country.
