Binduri (U/E), April 14, GNA - A British educationist, Madam Jane Harley, has presented assorted reading books, calculators and pencils valued at more than 20 million Cedis to three basic schools in the Bawku municipality of the Upper East region.

The beneficiary schools are Binduri, Narango and Tansia Primary and Junior Secondary schools, where Madam Harley taught Mathematics, English and Science during her four-month study tour of the country last year. Making the presentation, the Projects Coordinator of Zurri Organic Vegetable Farmers Association (ZOVFA), Mr. Philip Ayamba, said Madam Harley was touched about the lack of teaching and learning materials and promised to help the schools with reading books and other materials. The Municipal Director of Education, Madam Florence Pobi, appealed to school heads not to keep the books on the shelves for cosmetic purposes but to release them to complement classroom lessons. She appealed to pupils to spend time in reading their books and refrain from negative tendencies that may disrupt their academic pursuits in order to be useful and worthy ambassadors of the area. Mad. Pobi cautioned the pupils against stealing and mishandling of the books to enable others to also acquire knowledge from the books. She urged parents not to shun away from their responsibilities towards their awards. Rather, they should take keen interest in their development in school curricular activities and guide them through the right paths.

The headteacher of Binduri primary school, Mr. Francis Abugri, thanked the British philanthropist for her gesture and promised that the items would be used for the intended purposes.
