The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command recorded 98 deaths from 79 road crashes from January to April.

Thirty-five of the deaths resulted from people being knocked down by vehicles, 14 from head-on collisions and six from hit-and-run drivers.

Four people died when they fell from moving vehicles, three from wrong overtaking while veering into other lanes, crashing into stationary vehicles and hitting the rear of moving vehicles caused two deaths each.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, Public Affairs Officer of the Regional Police Command, made this known in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Sunyani on Wednesday.

He pointed out that careless and inconsiderate driving were major causes of road crashes in the region.

On crime, ASP Tawiah said the rate had reduced in the region due to strategies adopted by the Regional Command.

These include intensified police patrols on the highways and patrols in the communities which had enhanced intelligence.

ASP Tawiah advised the public to be security conscious to avoid creating opportunities for criminals to commit crime.
