Sunyani, March 10, GNA - Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister at the weekend announced that the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) would launch a website to project the activities of the region to the outside world. The Minister told pressmen in Sunyani that activities and achievements of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), as well as resources at the various districts, would also be available at the website.
He hoped that the process would help to attract investments into the region to accelerate its socio-economic development. Mr Nyamekye Marfo said his administration would operate an open-door policy to work hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to enhance the living condition of the people.
He appealed to the media to be politically neutral, impartial, fair and firm to work together with his administration in projecting the region positively rather than reporting sensationally which could cause confusion, inflame passion and create unnecessary tension. He advised the media to be circumspect and always cross-check facts before publication.
"The media is a very powerful instrument which could make and unmake, build and destroy the society".
The Regional Minister promised to have a quarterly encounter with the press to take stock of the region and to look at the way forward. Mr Nyamekye Marfo said Bong Ahafo would mark its golden jubilee anniversary on April 4 this year and entreated all citizens and well wishers to participate actively in the activities. Mr. Charles Koomson, Regional chairman of the Ghana Journalists' Association urged the media to cooperate with the minister to ensure the rapid development of the region.
He appealed to the public to work hard to support the objectives of the government but not to sit under tress and expect that manner would fall from heaven, adding that such people who do not contribute to their own development tended to blame the government because they will never see any major change in their lives.
