Brong Ahafo people are very hospitable-Baffour Awuah

Accra,June 01,GNA-Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister-Designate, on Thursday told a Parliamentary Committee vetting him that the people of Brong Ahafo are very hospitable and not likely to be anti-alien in the foreseeable future.

He said the region had about 40 per cent of her population made up of non-indigenes, adding that "if we were that hostile, I do not think we would have had allowed so many people who are not part of us to live among us."

Mr Awuah, who was answering questions from the members of the Appointment Committee said he was not aware of any tension in any part of the region arising from xenophobia.

Dr Benjamin Kunbour, a member, had asked if he was aware of the tension between settlers, particularly from Nandom area and the local people.

Mr Awuah asked chiefs in the Region to allocate building plots, which are close to their settlements to strangers to facilitate their speedy integration.

He said, "during my travels I see non indigenes' settlement in places that are not within town and I think that is not good enough." Mr Joe Baidoo Ansah, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Diasporian Relations designate Also appeared before the committee.
