As part of effort to ensure standard building practice in the country, a building engineer of Aquila International Limited, building and construction firm Mr. Elias Obarku has urged players in the building and construction industry to desist from shoddy works.
According to the Accra based building engineer, many buildings particularly government projects cannot stand the test of time because of unprofessional practice of using inferior and substandard materials.
He mentioned poor labour, inferior building materials and unprofessional application of building and construction regulations and rules as major factors that lead to the collapse and visible cracks in buildings.
To this he called on all building engineers to use standard building materials, pay their labours very well in order for them to give out their best as well as ensuring good practice of building and construction.
Mr. Elias appealed to building contractors to stop using sea sand for concrete work since that could lead to cracks in the building because sea sand did not easily mix with cement following the salt content.
He further refreshed the memories of his colleagues about creating room of at least 10m expansion joint to pave way for expansion purposes in building.
Aquila International Limited, is currently constructing Mem-Chemfre Community Senior High School (SHS), one of the community SHS initiative of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Afram Plains North district of the Eastern Region.
