Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, has served notices to residents of Dansoman who had erected buildings on the sewerage lines to immediately demolish them.
This is to pave way for the ongoing rehabilitation of the Accra Sewerage Improvement Project (ASIP) at a cost of 69 million dollars, funded by the African Development Bank.
He further ordered the Waste Management Department to mark all such buildings on the sewerage lines for demolition if the owners failed to adhere to the directive.
Dr Vanderpuije gave the order when he inspected progress of work on the ASIP at Dansoman.
The Dansoman project forms part of ASIP projects being undertaken in areas including Legon, Haatso, Burma Camp and its environs with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) as the executing agency.
Dr Vanderpuije said by November 2015, over 500 houses would be connected to the sewerage system to facilitate the treatment of liquid waste and improve sanitation in those areas.
He warned that the AMA would not compromise on the diversion of the sewerage lines except the original ones constructed by the State Housing Company in Dansoman.
Mr Kwadjoe Bruce, Sewerage Engineer of ASIP, expressed unhappiness about the way the Dansoman residents were putting impediment on their way and appealed to them to cooperate with the workers for the smooth execution of the project.
