Accra, Dec. 25, GNA - The African Trustees Foundation in collaboration with Debate to Action, both youth groups, have organised a performance on two of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) for the people of Bukom, a deprived community in Accra.
The performance, which were in the form of cultural displays, was aimed at educating the people on the need to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, and the achievement of universal primary education. Bukom is a community with a high population density where the people face extreme poverty.
There was the need, therefore, to encourage them to send their children to school in view of the capitation grant and other incentives put in place by the Government to entice parents to send their children to school.
Mr Jethro Abraham, Founder of Debate to Action, said the performance was aimed at sensitising the communities on the need to utilise the capitation grants since the benefits were enormous. He said since the community enjoyed cultural display more than durbars and the like, he thought it was the best medium for educating the people on the MDGs.
