Bus kills pupil, injures brother

New-Krobo (B/A) Aug. 01, GNA - A Hyundai grace bus knocked down two school children on the Techiman-Sunyani road last Thursday killing one and injuring the other. Seven year old Yuett Adom Ameyaw, a stage one pupil died on the spot.

The deceased's junior brother, Kwame Ameyaw Adom, aged four, sustained serious injuries and is on admission at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman. Superintendent Paul Kojo Gyimpeh, Techiman Municipal Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the accident occurred at about 1530 hours near the Tano River when the driver of the bus with registration number UE 1060 Q, Mohammed Abdulai lost control of the vehicle.

Supt. Gyimpeh said the driver swerved a pothole on the road and rather ran into the school pupils who were returning home from school. The victims are the children of Mr. Adom Ameyaw, a tutor of Techiman Secondary School.

Abdulai who was arrested after the accident has been granted police enquiry bail pending further investigations. A Tico taxi cab with registration number AS 3151 C on May 15, 2003, knocked down two children of Mr. Solomon Naambir of the Techiman office of Ghana News Agency, also of Presbyterian Primary School at the same spot, while they were returning home after school, killing one of them instantly while the other one spent several months on admission at the Holy Family Hospital.

.. The body of Yuett Ameyaw has been buried after a post-mortem examination.

Following last Thursday's accident, parents at New-Krobo, Wiaso, Jerusalem and Twimin-Nkwanta have appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to provide speed ramps at the Tano River spot to reduce speeding.
