Suhum (E/R), Feb. 5, GNA- A total of 73 acres of palm plantation, cassava and orange farms were destroyed when a bushfire swept through it at Aboabo, a farming village near Amanase in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District of the Eastern region at the week-end. The farms belong to one Opanyin Jonas Akakpo and Joseph Amanor an Ex-Service man.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after taking newsmen round to inspect the destroyed farms, Opanyin Akakpo, 70, said the fire also destroyed three-acres of his vegetable farm. According to Opanin Akakpo, while in the house, he had a message that his farm had been engulfed with smoke and he rushed to the farm with his three wives and children, but when they got there, the fire had already destroyed the farm and so he reported the incident to the Chief of Amanase.

He said the farms were the only sources of his livelihood, and therefore appealed to the District Assembly and the Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to help him to rehabilitate his farms. 5 Feb. 08
