Wa, Sept. 11, GNA - Mr Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister on Tuesday urged business education teachers to expose their students to the negative effects of corruption on national development. He noted that corruption is more endemic in the business sector and called for a crusade against it in schools, homes, work and public places, saying "corruption should not be limited to politicians alone."
Mr Mogtari made the call when he opened the 11th National Conference of the Ghana Association of Business Education Teachers (GABET) at Wa.
About 130 teachers of business subjects from all the 10 regions are attending the four-day conference on the theme: "The Business Teacher, a partner in national development."
Mr Mogtari said if all forms of corruption were stamped out the country would save a lot of money for development and assured workers that the government was ready to dialogue with them to find solutions to their problems.
Dr Daniel Bagah, Dean of the Faculty of Integrated Development Studies of the University of Development Studies, Tamale advised the teachers to show pride and personal commitment in their work as professionals.
Mr Kwame Ofori-Atta, National President of the Association, said the number of schools offering business programmes increased from 30 in 1991 to 350 this year.
"The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has therefore agreed to create a 'Business Desk' in the Inspectorate Division at the GES headquarters," he added. 11 Sept. 03
