Abrafo (C/R), Dec. 9, GNA- The Central Region Forestry Workers Union, (FWU) on Friday, elected new officers to steer the affairs of the union in the region for the next four years.
The elections was held during its annual delegates conference and supervised by the National Executive of the union.
The delegates conference, which was under the theme, "uniting to improve our job output through unionization", was held at Abrafo, near Jukwa in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower Denkyira district.
It elected Messrs James Entchil, as the chairman, Isaac Nana Poku, vice-chairman, Peter Andoh, secretary, Ms Charlotte Andoh, assistant secretary, Mr Richard Amankwah, first trustee, Ms Justina Ampiah, second trustee and Mr Emmanuel Boafo as the organizer.
Mr James Ware, District Manager of the Assin Fosu Forestry Services Division (FSD), urged the elected executives to co-operate with management to help solve some of the problem facing the Forestry Commission.
He advised them to regard their elevation as an opportunity to protect and promote the genuine interests of the workers of the Commission and not as a chance to pursue their selfish interests. Mr Entchil, speaking on behalf his colleagues, promised to work hard and also stick to the rules and regulations governing the union to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Earlier, Mr Mike Nzulu, Assistant Regional Manager of the FSD underscored the importance of unionization, and said it was the responsibility of unions in every organization to ensure that both the employer and the employees collaborate and work harmoniously to achieve its mission and vision.
He stressed the need for the national executives of the union to create awareness among all staff of the commission to work hard and do their best to achieve the set goals of the Forestry Commission. Mr Ben Asante, the National Secretary of the union advised all staff of the commission to take keen and active interest in the activities of the union, and warned them not to compromise with timber dealers and all those whose activities tend to undermine the existence of the commission.
