C10bn for electrification of streets in Tamale

Tamale, July 9, GNA - The government has provided 10 billion cedis for the electrification of streets in the Tamale Metropolis to give it a facelift and ensure security of the people.

The amount would be used to procure materials while the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly would also provide a component of 400 million cedis for installation works.

Work on the project would commence soon and would be completed within three months period and appealed to the residents to cooperate with the contractor for the smooth implementation of the project. Mr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (TMCE), announced this when he interacted with executives of the Tamale Central and Aboabo Markets Traders Associations on Sunday to have a first hand information about some of the challenges facing the markets. The TMCE used the occasion to educate the people to meet their tax obligations regularly to generate more money to the assembly to undertake development projects.

Mr. Adam called on the traders to remain united and not to allow political differences to divide them, saying: "even though we belong to different political parties, when it comes to development of Tamale, we must unite and pool resources to develop it".

"We must also eschew lies, rumour mongering and religious differences", he said, adding: " these have contributed to the mistrust and disunity among the people".

He reminded the people of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Tamale and the 50th celebrations of Ghana's Independence that would usher in dignitaries from outside the country into Tamale and urged them to be discipline, especially on the roads.

"Let us showcase our rich culture and the Ghanaian hospitality to them to erase the negative perceptions that people outside have about us", he said.
