CCG supports victims of June 3 disaster

The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) in collaboration with the Ghanaian community in the diaspora has provided financial support to victims of the flood and fire disaster which occurred on June 3, 2015.

The beneficiaries were presented with an amount of GH?170.00 each to the 400 registered victims to help ease their pains and sufferings.

Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, General Secretary of the CCG, said the Council thought it prudent to mobilize funds to support victims of the flood disaster and succeeded in raising an amount of GH?68,730.00 from Churches and the Ghanaian community in Canada and the United States of America.

He noted that the 400 victims were registered through the certification of pastors from the Baptist Methodist, Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Christ Evangelical Mission Anglican among others, as a proof that they were victims of the disaster.

Rev Opuni-Frimpong said the Council had organized blood donation in partnership with the Ministry of Health and a memorial service for persons who died as a result of the flood and fire disaster.

He called for public discipline in all spheres, especially in adherence to sanitation laws to avert any unforeseen disaster.

He said the Council would roll-out the second phase of the support to assist victims, who lost their relatives and called for support from individuals and organizations.

Mr Patrick Kofi Manfo, Public Relations Officer, Ghanaian-Canadian Association of Ontario, expressed their condolences for the bereaved families, and that, the association decided to help to alleviate their sufferings.

He said the association elected him to come to Ghana to witness the presentation of the money to the beneficiaries and expressed satisfaction in coordinating with the CCG because of its credibility.
