Cadet Corps of Sunyani Secondary School inaugurated

Sunyani (B/A), Nov. 23, GNA - Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Sunyani District Chief Executive (DCE) on Saturday inaugurated a 40-member cadet corps of the Sunyani Senior Secondary School (SUSEC) with a call on students to be disciplined to enable them to achieve high academic laurels.

The DCE, who was the reviewing officer of the parade mounted by the well-drilled cadet corps stated: "The high sense of discipline derived from your training will lead to the attainment of high academic standards as a disciplined mind makes a sound and responsible person."

He said the cadet corps could also serve as a vehicle for the attainment of the laudable goals under the Vice-President's crusade against indiscipline, particularly among the youth.

Mr. Baffour-Awuah charged members of the corps to let the training they had gone through to impact positively on the moral and social lives of students in the school.

He also asked them to regularly embark on clean-up exercises to keep the school clean to forestall the outbreak of diseases.

Mr. Baffour-Awuah commended the headmaster and staff of the school for working hard to institute the cadet corps in the school and expressed the hope that such efforts would be sustained.

He appealed to the military to enlist some members of the cadet corps into the regular army on completion of school to sustain their interest in the profession.

Mr. Joseph Awuah, headmaster of the school said the cadet corps, the brainchild of a former agricultural science tutor of the school, Mr. Kent Badu, was formed about three years ago.

The school has employed a permanent staff instructor to take charge of the corps to enable it to become a permanent feature in the school's activities, he said.

The cadets later entertained the spectators to military drills and displays to the admiration of a large number of spectators.

They were supported by the cadet corps of the Notre Dame Girls Senior Secondary School at Fiapre, near Sunyani.

Present at the ceremony were Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri, Omanhene of Sunyani Traditional Area and Major Sammy Adokor, Second in Command of the Third Battalion of Infantry, Sunyani.
