Kumasi, Dec 16, GNA- A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to candidates who lose in the primaries to resist the temptation of breaking away from the party to contest the general elections as independent candidates.

Mr George Abofra, an aspirating NDC parliamentary candidate for Asokwa West constituency, said this does not augur well for unity and strength of the party and should therefore be discouraged.

Mr Abofra was addressing a forum of executives and members of the NDC of the Anwiam-Dagomba Line at Oforikrom in Kumasi.

Mr Abofra, who is a tutor at the Institute of Adult Education, University of Ghana, Legon, expressed regret that already some constituencies had witnessed a situation where losers in the primaries have decided to go solo.

He advised them to re-consider their decision and return to the party.

Mr Abofra commended the national leadership of the NDC for working hard to restore unity and sanity to the party.

Mr Evans Kwabla Ablordeppey, Asokwa West organiser of the NDC, urged the party members to focus more on electing parliamentary candidates who are marketable and have the capacity to help the party win the parliamentary seat.
