A ?3.6 Billion students hostel for the Cape Coast Polytechnic (C-Poly) has been inaugurated. The 300-room facility was financed by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

It is a four-storey building with over 70 rooms, each of which is expected to accommodate four students. The rent has been pegged at ?450,000 per student per annum. Other facilities at the hostel include well-fitted kitchen, a Junior Common Room (JCR), water and sanitary facilities.

Speaking at the function, the principal of the polytechnic, Dr J.K. Borsah, expressed gratitude to the government through the GETFund. He said it would greatly mitigate the acute accommodation problems facing the students.

Hitherto, students of the polytechnic had to rent rooms in the nearby villages at exorbitant rates. Apart from the high cost of accommodation most of the rented rooms did not offer congenial atmosphere for studies. The completion of the project, therefore, is a great relief to more than 3.000 students.

Dr Borash appealed to the government for additional funds to provide more hostels for the students.

The Minister for Tertiary Education, Ms Elizabeth Ohene, charged the student to be disciplined and make good use of the facilities at their disposal. She pledged government to support towards addressing the problems of the polytechnic.
