The Central Regional Engineer of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Mr Samuel Mensah on Monday said the odour in the water being supplied to Cape Coast and surrounding areas did not pose any health hazard.

He told the Ghana News Agency that the unusual odour was the result of the presence of rotten leaves in the Brimsu Dam. Many residents in the Municipality had expressed concern about the odour in the water from the Dam.

Mr Mensah said the water supplied from the Dam was wholesome since the requisite chemicals were being used for its treatment.

He, therefore, asked the public not to panic because the situation was normal and gave the assurance that with the current water level of 7.1 metres the Company would continue to produce good quality water for the people of Cape Coast and surrounding areas.

The Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr Yaw Ofori Yeboah said there had not been any noticeable increase in water borne diseases in the Municipality.

He said the cholera situation had improved tremendously and urged the public to pay attention to personal hygiene and keep the environment clean.
